Reveling in the beauty of what used to be an ugly beast.

My husband and I purchased a house 2 years ago with the ugliest floor to ceiling brick fireplace. It was truly a dark, dreary eye sore and since our living room and dining room are a large open space it made both rooms look like a dungeon.

Last week I ordered your product in the twilight taupe. I should note, It was very helpful to have everything you need bundled up into one package, right down to the masking tape! The base coat took FOREVER, apparently we have a very porous fireplace. I ended up priming it first and then applying the base coat paint.

With that said, I am astounded by the difference in our fireplace after using brick-anew. The video was extremely helpful in understanding the steps. The results are still fantastic!

The photos speak for themselves! Unbelievable! I bought the clear coat and will apply that soon, for now I just revel in the beauty of what used to be an ugly beast. Feel free to share them.

Painting Brick Fireplace Ideas for the DIYer

We recently decided to start our newest project after researching all the options available for brick fireplace paint. My husband and I stumbled across your Fireplace Decorating Blog articles and all the people that have actually used this fireplace paint. We were impressed and nervous but we went on ahead an placed the order.

We chose Twilight Taupe - and painted the old brick fireplace in our den.  We are so happy with the results!!  We did a kitchen renovation (the kitchen and den are adjoined) and have received the most compliments on the fireplace - it is now such a great accent and a highlight in the space. - Kristen

Awestruck With My Brick Fireplace Painting Results

Here are photographs that you may use if you like. It really has made such a difference in our small living room. I had the Regency Stove we purchased painted Surf-Sand color to match the Twilight Taupe colorway. Even the guys putting in the new stove were awestruck that I did the painting myself. They put stoves in day in and day out and were really impressed. Thanks again for all the help. I am so proud of our "new" living room!

Afraid to Paint your Brick Fireplace?

This was an easier project then I thought. This product is amazing! I can't believe I didn't do this sooner! Our Brick Eyesore No Longer An Ugly Duckling

"This is the most amazing product I have ever used. As you can see from our before picture, our fireplace had a disgusting stain around our new wood stove. When we bought our house it was such an eye sore. I tried cleaning with many products and none worked. We looked into re tiling the fireplace and it would have cost us thousands of dollars. As you can see from the after picture, the fireplace now looks amazing. I can hardly believe it is the same fireplace It went from an ugly duckling to a swan!!!It did take us 2 days. We put on the base coat the first day and the other coats on the next day. The directions including the DVD helped so much. I would recommend it to anyone thinking of changing the appearance of their fireplace."

The Difference Is Dynamic and I Did It Myself!

Here are my pictures as I promised.  I Thought I had a before that showed the whole fireplace, but I couldn't find it.  As I said in an earlier email WOW!!!! The results are better than we expected.  Great product and DVD/video instructions.

As you know, our fireplace was so dark and made the room look smaller. When I saw you had recommended the Brick Anew Brick Paint Kit I never would have thought that the difference would be so dynamic. It has brightened up the whole room, and makes it look bigger.  We had planned to cover the fireplace brick with sheet rock and tile.  I thought this might be a temporary fix,  but I love it so much I wouldn't think of covering it now.  You saved us a lot of money, not to mention time as it only took us about six hours to complete.  I would highly recommend this fireplace remodel to anyone before taking any drastic measures to replace, cover or destroy their brick fireplace. Bright and Beautiful - Summer Fireplace Remodel

Operation Fantastic: Den Dramatic

This is my neighbor's fireplace. She has been trying to decide for the last six months what she wanted to do with her awkward fireplace. She wanted to keep her den the same color-wise and she knew she couldn't refurnish the entire room so I pulled out all the Fireplace Makeover's that I have helped transform. It took a while for us to convince her husband but we made a go of it anyway.


As you can see the fireplace brick was covered in soot from the previous years of fireplace use and the brick left a lot to be desired. So, she chose a color (Twilight Taupe) and we decided to try one small brick. We followed the whole procedure, step by step as the kit said and it looked awesome. When we showed her husband he was finally excited and said go for it, so we did. Here are the amazing results.


Since this photo was taken she has since changed her carpet color to a chocolate brown and added new furniture and I am still trying to get her to let me take a picture!!!

Complete Brick Fireplace Makeover Before My Company Arrived In Town

The weekend before Easter, I helped my friend Nanci with her fireplace makeover. She had purchased the color themed matte finished paint kit in Twilight Taupe. I really wanted to make sure that she knew this was simple to do and you have to complete each step in order to get the desired affect she was aiming for. She was in panic mode, she had guests coming in from out of town and she wanted a whole new look to her fireplace. Well, after a few hours of work, here is the before and after photos of how it turned out. I decided to let Nanci tell you how she felt when it was all done.


"I could not believe this! It didn't take hardly any time for us to get this done. I absolutely love it and so does everyone who has seen it. I wanted a stone fireplace but that wasn't possible. This gives me the look of stone and my living room looks lighter. The old look was painted red brick and painted gray mortar by the previous owners. I didn't like it and it was chipping too. I am impressed with your product and how simple it was to create the look. I had a professional come in and quote me $750 and I paid way less to get the paint kit, I can not only be proud to say "I did it, but it turned out so much better then someone who wouldn't have cared as much as we did."

This project was fun & the photos don't do it justice!

Our fireplace was 22 years old, huge, and very dated. The brown walls and ivory furniture looked out of place in the old fashioned room. The project was fun, and because of the size of the wall it took a little bit longer then the average person. We love it. The photos don't even do it justice. I can't look at a red brick fireplace anymore without wanting to "fix it".  

Here is the kit I used : Twilight Taupe a combination of taupe, tan, beige and cream. The color blends easily and resembles tumbled marble or natural sandstone. 

First I got rid of all dust, dirt, loose mortar, and soot on the brick to ensure that the base coat/sealer completely bonded with the brick.

You can try using soap and water or household cleaners, but I recommend this particular fireplace brick cleaner. It dissolved my tough creosote and ash residues and no dangerous acids. OH, and don't worry about stains on the brick they will be covered by the base coat/sealer.

After I taped off the fireplace, I painted on the base coat/sealer over all the brick and mortar using the paint brush in my kit and like I was painting a wall.

Then I used the small roller or sponge to apply color 1, followed by the glaze, color 2 and color 3, letting the paint dry between each step. The written instructions and DVD that came with my kit will show you exactly how and where to paint to make your work look like a professional did it.

Then I applied the clear matte finish after allowing the paint to dry completely.

Now, I have a masterpiece!
